MG’s first all-new roadster in nearly 30 years is capable of 0-100km/h in a claimed 3.2 seconds – but it costs $115,000 in Australia, almost five times the price of an MG 3 city hatch.

The 2025 MG Cyberster will cost close to Porsche and BMW money when it arrives in Australian showrooms imminently, as the most expensive vehicle ever sold locally by the growing car maker.
One top-of-the-range, all-wheel-drive Cyberster variant – capable of 0-100km/h in a claimed 3.2 seconds – will be offered at launch, priced from $115,000 plus on-road costs.
It is less than the circa $125,000 plus on-road costs previously forecast, but it is still MG’s most expensive model ever, $25,000 dearer than the $89,990 MG ZT 260 V8 sedan of 2004-05.
MG says it has already collected 50 customer deposits – before the final price was announced – with the rest of the first shipment of cars allocated to the dealer network as demonstrator and display vehicles.
The mid-2000s was also the last time MG offered a roadster in Australia, with the new electric car its first all-new, in-house production sports car since 1995.
The Cyberster places MG – known in recent years for selling some of Australia’s cheapest cars – in the pricing territory of high-end European machinery for the first time in two decades.
The BMW Z4 is priced from $99,200 to $139,800 plus on-road costs, while the petrol-powered Porsche 718 Boxster – which has just exited production – started from $135,100 plus on-road costs.
MG Australia chief commercial officer Giles Belcher told Drive the company is not fazed by the notion of its $115,000 roadster sharing showroom space with $25,000 MG 3 hatchbacks and $30,000 MG ZS SUVs.
“Our plan is – irrespective of the product – to have value, and even at the price point it is, we still think it represents amazing value from the design, the technology, the output, the speed. It’s an amazing car,” he said.
“Yes, it is not cheap. It’s $115,000. It is a new price point for us, but at that price point to get this level of car, I don’t believe there’s anything else in the market.
“When we were looking at the setup and pricing to find comparisons, there isn’t really one. We were looking at different sorts of BMW Z4s and Porsche Taycans, and do you compare it to EV sports cars, convertible sports cars or two-seaters? It’s a hard value proposition to lock down from a competitive point of view.”
He said MG is training dealership staff to ensure the showroom experience is up to scratch for such an expensive car, but said “we’re not trying to delineate the experience, we just want everyone to have a fantastic experience.”
Australia will initially receive one MG Cyberster variant, with the largest battery available globally, and dual-motor all-wheel drive as standard, capable of 0-100km/h in a claimed 3.2 seconds.
A cheaper rear-wheel-drive variant is offered in the UK – with two-thirds of the power, a longer range and claimed 0-100km/h in five seconds – but Belcher said it is not currently planned for Australia.
Powering the Australian-market Cyberster are dual electric motors – 150kW/250Nm front and 250kW/475Nm rear – developing a claimed 375kW and 725Nm combined, fed by a 77kWh ternary lithium battery pack.
MG claims a 0-100km/h acceleration time of 3.2 seconds – towards a 208km/h top speed – and a driving range based on European WLTP lab testing of 443km.
DC fast charging at up to 144kW is said to enable a 10 to 80 per cent recharge in a quoted 40 minutes, while an 11kW AC home wallbox is claimed to deliver a full charge in nine hours.
Charging times are claimed at an ambient temperature of 25 degrees Celsius, given electric-car recharge times can vary considerably based on weather conditions.
The Cyberster is fitted with a battery pre-heating system that can get the pack to its ideal temperature en route to a charging station.
Standard equipment includes Lamborghini-style ‘scissor’ doors – operated electrically – as well as a power-folding soft-top roof, 20-inch alloy wheels, Brembo front brake calipers, and launch control.
Inside, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster sits between two 7.0-inch touchscreens, with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, satellite navigation, and FM and digital DAB radio.
Other features include Alcantara and synthetic leather-look upholstery, power-adjustable heated seats, an eight-speaker Bose stereo, dual-zone climate control, and a suite of advanced safety systems.
The 2025 MG Cyberster is arriving in Australia now.
While the circa-120 cars in the first shipment have all been allocated – 50 to customers, and the rest to dealers across Australia – Belcher told Drive the brand is not limited by supply, and can sell as many as the market demands.
