Throughout the 2022-23 season, many waited with lots of anticipation for French phenom Victor Wembanyama to enter the NBA, and he was arguably the most hyped rookie to ever come into the league.

Last season, he lived up to the hype by averaging 21.4 points, 10.6 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 3.6 blocked shots a game for the San Antonio Spurs, and it has made many wonder how much better he will be in just a couple of years when he will still be a long way away from entering his prime.

Plenty of people are predicting that within the next five years or so, Wembanyama will become arguably the best basketball player in the world, but the Memphis Grizzlies’ GG Jackson went a step further and said he will “be the greatest player to ever play the game,” per Legion Hoops.

Right now, the 20-year-old’s offensive game is very raw, and he still lacks the lower-body and core strength needed to hold his position and be an inside threat on offense.

But he is already a nightmare on the defensive end, and he led the NBA in blocks per game last season as a rookie.

The Spurs won the equivalent of a Powerball jackpot by getting to take him No. 1 in last year’s draft, and now the challenge is to build a squad around him that will consistently contend for the NBA championship.

If Wembanyama stays healthy and collects at least five championship rings, perhaps he will make good on Jackson’s proclamation.
