Acura is gearing up to electrify its sports car lineup with a new model that promises to evoke the spirit of the iconic NSX. Riding on Honda’s 0 Series electric platform, this upcoming vehicle is set to redefine electric performance.

Shinji Aoyama, global executive officer for Acura, revealed details about the project during Monterey Car Week. He emphasized the importance of a thin and lightweight battery-electric platform, which will contribute to a lower vehicle height and a more spacious interior.

This new electric sports car is expected to arrive as early as 2027, following the introduction of a Honda-badged electric sedan in 2026. Acura has already demonstrated its commitment to performance-oriented electric vehicles with the ZDX, a midsize electric crossover that offers a powerful Type S variant.

The ZDX Type S boasts impressive power figures, surpassing even the torque output of the discontinued NSX Type S. This suggests that Acura is determined to maintain its reputation for thrilling driving experiences in the electric era.

Design elements for the upcoming electric sports car have been hinted at by Acura’s head designer, Dave Marek. The renderings presented at the ZDX introduction showcase a sporty silhouette reminiscent of the NSX, with a pointed nose and sharp lines. Marek emphasized Acura’s dedication to “Precision Crafted Performance” in the electrified age, promising a vehicle that combines thrilling performance with striking design.

As Acura continues to innovate and push the boundaries of electric vehicle technology, this new sports car promises to be a highlight of the brand’s future lineup.
