Afghan women ‘brace for worst’ as Taliban tighten morality laws

KABUL — Afghan journalist Saima thought she was one of the lucky ones when the Taliban swept back to power.

She could no longer do the reporting she once did, and was restricted to reading the news on TV with her face covered. But unlike many, Saima kept her job as the Taliban’s ultra-strict version of Islam forced most women out of the workplace altogether and severely limited girls’ education.
