Oscar winners, Good Will Hunting co-stars, and real-life best friends Matt Damon and Ben Affleck are due to reunite for a new thriller. Titled RIP, plot details currently remain unknown, but the package is “currently making its way around town” according to The Hollywood Reporter, with shooting planned for this fall.
The movie is described as a crime thriller, with Deadline revealing that RIP “is expected to find a distributor soon as interest has been drawn from theatrical and streaming buyers.” While we may not know the plot details, the fact that director Joe Carnahan is on board to helm the project should provide some clues regarding the direction and tone. The filmmaker is best known for the likes of Smokin’ Aces, The Grey, The A-Team, and Copshop, all of which feature a large ensemble cast, a lot of blood and violence, and usually some humor in-between. Carnahan is also known for writing the likes of Bad Boys for Life, which reignited that particular action franchise and has since led to the box office-dominating Bad Boys: Ride or Die.
RIP will be produced by Artists Equity, the company founded by Ben Affleck and Matt Damon back in 2022 and which aims to “help creators deliver on their vision,” according to a statement Affleck made at the time. Upon founding the company Damon added, “Ben and I know that the power will continue to be in the hands of the creators, no matter which direction the industry evolves.”
Matt Damon & Ben Affleck Love to Share the Screen
Since breaking into Hollywood with the acclaimed drama Good Will Hunting back in 1997, Ben Affleck and Matt Damon have shared the screen several times over the years. The pair starred as rebellious angels in Kevin Smith’s Dogma in 1999 and went on to feature in the director’s Jay and Silent Bob movies.
The real-life best pals recently starred in director Ridley Scott’s The Last Duel, before working together again in Air, which details the influential partnership between Nike and basketball rookie Michael Jordan. Directed by Ben Affleck and written by Alex Convery, Air stars Matt Damon in the lead as Sonny Vaccaro.
