BMW wählte den Concorso d’Eleganza im Grand Hotel Villa d’Este am Comer See, um das Skytop-Konzept vorzustellen, ein maßgeschneidertes Einzelstück auf Basis eines M8-Cabriolets. Offenbar führt BMW eine Machbarkeitsstudie durch, um den Bau einer limitierten Auflage in Betracht zu ziehen. Wenn ich „begrenzt“ sage, meine ich begrenzt, nicht mehr als 25 Autos.
Ein solches Auto könnte bis zu 1 Million US-Dollar und mehr kosten, aber ich könnte einen Einkaufswagen für viel weniger kaufen und trotzdem die Open-Air-Atmosphäre erleben. Aber Autojournalisten glauben alles, was ihnen ein leitender Angestellter erzählt. Setzen diese Autojournalisten, die in der kritischen Analyse geschult sind, tatsächlich kritische Analysen ein? Nein… offensichtlich nicht.
Das Skytop-Konzept ist… ein Werbegag, der darauf abzielt, positive Nachrichten für BMW zu generieren. Ich persönlich wäre überrascht, wenn BMW überhaupt eine Machbarkeitsstudie durchführen würde. BMW sucht willfährige Journalisten, die niemals Fragen stellen, und wenn sie das tun, werfen sie nichts weiter als Softballs.
Wir hier in der DCB-Zentrale haben aus erster Hand miterlebt, wie BMW die Automobilmedien betreibt und „kontrolliert“. Teile des PR-Teams agieren wie Mafiabosse. Die Medien küssen Martin Harrison zwar nicht auf den Handrücken, wohl aber auf seinen Hintern.
Eigentlich ist Martin einer der Guten in der Automobil-PR, wahrscheinlich gehen wir zu hart mit ihm um, aber der „Colonel Kurtz“ steckt nachweislich in uns allen.
