FX & Ryan Murphy’s Horror Show Grotesquerie Gets Exiting Season 2 Update

Date:

FX’s Grotesquerie could survive to see a second season. Created by Ryan Murphy, Jon Robin Baitz, and Joe Baken, the horror drama follows Detective Lois Tryon (Niecy Nash) and Sister Megan (Micaela Diamond), as they investigate a series of gruesome, religiously-themed murders in a small town. The series, which delivered a shocking twist during its last episode, “Unplugged,” has fared well with critics. The series will air new episodes until October 30, and according to recent comments from Murphy and FX Chairman of FX Content & FX Productions John Landgraf, it seems likely it will return for a second season.

Now, during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Landgraf discussed the possibility of more Grotesquerie following its first season, calling the show “like a series of Russian nesting dolls.”

“We’re definitely considering doing more because, as you’ll see at the end, it’s like a series of Russian nesting dolls. You just saw the doll within the doll. Then there are more dolls inside these dolls. And you won’t even have a sense of what the base reality of it is, for sure, until you get to the finale. But then there’s a whole story that takes place in that reality which, again, is very of our reality.”

Murphy is perhaps best known for his work on American Horror Story. Every season of that horror anthology series (co-created by Brad Falchuk), tells a standalone story, with many of its talented cast members returning to different roles. Murphy is connected to other popular anthologies, too, including Feud, Monster, and American Crime Story, but Grotesquerie, should it return for a Season 2, won’t follow suit. Landgtraf shared:

“I think part of the reason why maybe some people are wondering if it’s like an ‘American Horror Story’ is because they don’t know whether it’s a closed-end, one-off story yet. And I can tell you, you’ll know by the time you get to the end that this is a series.”

Grotesquerie Season 1 Ends With a Big Cliffhanger

Landgraf teases a “big, big, amazing cliffhanger” during the Grotesquerie’s final episode that “propels you into a second season.” While there’s no official word from FX yet, Landgraf’s comments point towards a continuation. Grotesquerie, starring Nash, Diamond, Courtney B. Vance and Nicholas Alexander Chavez, is streaming on Hulu. New episodes land on FX at 10 p.m. ET every Wednesday until October 30.

Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story May Get New Episodes Following Case Update

Ryan Murphy teased the possibility of extending Netflix series Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story after a new hearing was announced.

Murphy’s latest projects include Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story, American Sports Story, and Doctor Odyssey, and the writer, producer and director already has several other projects in the works. They include the recently announced The Beauty, about a sexually transmitted disease that makes people more attractive, the female-led legal procedural All’s Fair, the next season of Monster, which will shift its focus on Ed Gein (set to be portrayed by Charlie Hunnam), and Season 13 of American Horror Story. While no details have been revealed about what we can expect for the latter show, Murphy could be reuniting some of the show’s most popular cast members.

“I did have a wonderful conversation with Sarah Paulson the other day, and she was like, ‘Okay, I think it’s time we get the band back together, so let’s make some calls here,'” Murphy shared.

In FX’s Grotesquerie, a series of heinous crimes have unsettled a small community. Detective Lois Tryon feels these crimes are eerily personal, as if someone — or something — is taunting her. With no leads and unsure of where to turn, she accepts the help of Sister Megan. However, they find themselves ensnared in a sinister web that only seems to raise more questions than answers.
