It’s been confirmed that the 2028 Summer Olympics will be held in Los Angeles, California, USA, from July 14 to July 30, 2028.
The game will mark the third time Los Angeles will host the Summer Olympics, having previously hosted in 1932 and 1984.
The 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles will differ significantly from the Paris Olympics in several key ways:
1. Introduction of New Sports:
Los Angeles will introduce new sports like flag football, squash, and obstacle racing, and will bring back lacrosse and cricket, which haven’t been seen in the Olympics since the early 20th century. Baseball and softball will also return. In contrast to the Paris Olympics which featured unique sports but did not include these new or returning events.
2. Geographic Location:
Unlike the Paris Games, which made use of the Seine River for the athlete parade and showcased its historic buildings and modern cityscapes, Los Angeles will utilize its Pacific Ocean and beaches and will feature two major stadiums: SoFi Stadium and the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. Track and field events will take place at the Coliseum, while swimming will be held at SoFi Stadium.
The Crypto.com Arena will be transformed for gymnastics competitions; the A84 Foundation/John C. Argue Swim Stadium which was originally built for the 1932 Olympics, will host diving events again while the Long Beach Waterfront will host marathon swimming and triathlon events.
3. Scheduling:
In contrast to Paris which adhered to the conventional timing with its Games concluding at the end of July, the scheduling for the Los Angeles Games will also be different, starting earlier on July 14 and ending on July 30.
Culturally, Los Angeles will also showcase its modern cinematic, musical, and technological credentials, which are popular in Hollywood Cinema.
