Jeffrey Wright (American Fiction) is set to star alongside Michael Fassbender in The Agency, which is George Clooney’s remake of French political drama series The Bureau.
The series is a political thriller that follows Martian (Fassbender), “a covert CIA agent, ordered to abandon his undercover life and return to London Station. When the love he left behind reappears, romance reignites.
“His career, his real identity and his mission are pitted against his heart; hurling them both into a deadly game of international intrigue and espionage.”
Wright will play Henry, the Director of Operations and mentor to Martian.
Chris McCarthy, Paramount Global Co-CEO and President/CEO, Showtime & MTV Entertainment Studios said in a statement: “Jeffrey Wright doesn’t just portray characters – he inhabits them completely, infusing each role with raw, emotional power and profound, psychological insight.
“We are thrilled to have him join Michael Fassbender and our creative dream team of Joe Wright, Jez and John-Henry Butterworth, Grant Heslov and George Clooney.”
Chris McCarthy, President/CEO, of Showtime and Paramount Media explained that the series “will follow in the great tradition of Homeland, one of the most successful and brand-defining shows at Showtime.
“Just as Homeland elevated global espionage, The Agency will take viewers even deeper into a world of intrigue and subterfuge with complicated characters who struggle with their own demons as they fight existential threats to the nation and the world.”

Fassbender most recently wrapped production on Steven Soderbergh’s feature Black Bag with Cate Blanchett.
Joe Wright will direct and executive produce the series. The Agency will premiere on Paramount+ with Showtime later this year.
