After the disaster that was the 2023 season, the New York Jets took a step toward rebounding on Tuesday when they signed free-agent wide receiver Mike Williams.
Williams, the No. 7 pick in the 2017 draft, left the Los Angeles Chargers after seven seasons as they looked to trim their payroll, and he should give the Jets another legitimate offensive threat.
Garrett Wilson, their WR1, took to Twitter to welcome Williams to the team.

While Williams has never made the Pro Bowl, he has had two seasons with over 1,000 receiving yards, and at 6-foot-4, he is a legitimate jump-ball threat, and he is adept at making contested receptions.
He has the ability to take plenty of pressure off Wilson, who has gone over 1,000 receiving yards in both of his NFL seasons and won the 2022 Offensive Rookie of the Year award.
The 2023 season was filled with tons of promise for New York when it started, partly due to Wilson’s talents and quick emergence, but Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers tore his Achilles on their first offensive series of the year, and there went the season.
Rodgers has vowed to return, but with the wear and tear that came with 15 seasons of being a starting quarterback, it is an open question as to whether he will be able to play at a high level.
The addition of Williams should help, however, as he could become something of a security blanket for Rodgers — if he can stay healthy.
Williams played just three games last season because of a torn ACL.
