John Wick’s Chad Stahelski to Make New Murder Mystery The Professionals

Date:

What do you get when you mix the kick-ass action of the John Wick franchise with a stone-cold murder mystery? No, it’s not the set-up to a corny joke, it’s one of Chad Stahelski‘s next movies. Stahelski, a former stunt performer and coordinator, rose to prominence as a director following the breakaway success of the John Wick franchise. With his time under Lionsgate’s immensely profitable franchise potentially at an end, Stahelski is looking ahead to new projects, one of which forces the director to ask audiences “whodunit?”

Per The Hollywood Reporter, Chad Stahelski is producing The Professionals, a new action/murder mystery film. The movie was originally drafted by Ross Perot, but the script was further developed and completed by Madison Turner, another former stunt performer. Stahelski and Perot aren’t the only stunt performers involved with the movie, as the film will be produced by the renowned 87Eleven action team (which was co-founded by Stahelski). If the 87Eleven crew sound familiar, it’s because they’re behind some of the most explosive action movies in recent years, including Atomic Blonde, Deadpool 2, and the aforementioned John Wick movies.

Chad Stahelski will produce the English-language remake of Kill, with the original also set to hit theaters in the U.S. this month.

The Professionals has been described as an amalgamation of Clue (the beloved board game) and the John Wick franchise. According to the film’s synopsis, the comparison might be more literal than a general guideline. The movie follows a group of contract killers on a mission in the English countryside. When one of the assassins is assassinated (the twists begin already), the other assassins must deduce who assassinated the first assassin. Sound confusing? Good. The Professionals will blend the twisting turns of the murder mystery genre with the gung-ho gun-fu action 87Eleven has become renowned for.

Chad Stahelski Has Some Major Projects on the Horizon

According to his IMDb profile, Chad Stahelski might be the busiest director working today. He currently has 11 upcoming projects listed on the movie database. While projects get delayed or canceled and people drop in and out of them, many of these are confirmed and already in various stages of development and production. Next on the horizon for the former stunt performer turned director is the long-awaited reboot of Highlander. Henry Cavill is set to star in the new reboot, which will feature far better action than the original (as iconic as Highlander is, fans are lying to themselves that the action scenes are good).

Chad Stahelski also has two video game adaptations in the pipeline. He is set to direct an adaptation of the beloved samurai game Ghost of Tsushima. Little has been revealed about the movie, but it is currently in pre-production, and casting news could be announced very soon. Another adaptation that has been attached to the director for a while now is Rainbow Six. Based on the video game series inspired by Tom Clancy’s novels, very, very little is known about Rainbow Six, as the project hasn’t had any major updates in a while. Michael B. Jordan was set to star in the movie when it was announced in January 2023. But, some believe the project has quietly been shelved.
