Mercedes-Benz To Launch All-Electric C-Class and GLC in 2026

Mercedes-Benz CEO Ola Kallenius has confirmed that fully electric versions of the C-Class sedan and GLC SUV will debut in 2026. Built on the company’s dedicated electric vehicle architecture, MB.EA, these models will spearhead the brand’s push to accelerate EV sales and solidify its position in the core luxury segment.

As direct competitors to the Tesla Model 3 and Model Y, the electric C-Class and GLC are expected to offer a compelling blend of luxury, technology, and performance. To further enhance their appeal, high-performance AMG variants of both models are also under development.

The fully electric versions of the C-Class and GLC will be underpinned by the company’s dedicated electric architecture, MB.EA, and position Mercedes as a key player in the core luxury EV segment. Prototypes of high-performance AMG variants have also been spotted, suggesting that the brand intends to offer electrified performance models to rival the likes of Tesla and BMW.

2026 Electric Mercedes C Class

The naming convention for these new EVs remains uncertain. While the EQC moniker was initially considered, Mercedes may opt for the more familiar C-Class and GLC badges to maintain brand recognition. Complicating matters is the continued production of internal combustion engine versions of these models, which will likely coexist with their electric counterparts for several years.

Initially planned to replace the EVA2 platform (used for the EQE and EQS), MB.EA will now coexist with it for the foreseeable future as Mercedes reevaluates its EV strategy for larger vehicles. This decision comes amidst reports of a development freeze on larger electric models.

Mercedes’ electric vehicle portfolio will also include the MMA platform for compact models like the 2025 CLA, which will accommodate both hybrid and fully electric powertrains. To complement this lineup, the AMG-EA platform will underpin future high-performance electric vehicles.

Acknowledging the challenges of the EV transition, CEO Ola Kallenius has hinted at potential collaborations with other automakers to accelerate Mercedes’ electrification efforts.
