In a dazzling display of skill and determination, the Network Against Corruption and Trafficking (NACAT) overpowered Flawless Aesthetics Centre, winning 10-5 in an exhilarating match at the Monoliza Stadium, Abuja, on Saturday night.
The encounter kicked off with Flawless taking the early lead as captain Ernest Akibe found the net in the 7th minute, electrifying the crowd. But NACAT was quick to respond. In just five minutes, George Ali, NACAT’s solid defender, levelled the game with a clinical equalizer. From that moment on, NACAT’s offense ignited, and the Ali brothers began their scoring spree. Benjamin Ali, NACAT’s lethal striker, netted twice in quick succession, followed by another powerful strike from George Ali, pushing the score to 4-1 in favor of NACAT.
Refusing to back down, Flawless mounted a spirited comeback. Ernest Akibe, determined to keep his team in contention, delivered two more stunning goals, reducing the deficit to a nail-biting 4-3 as the first half ended.
The second half, however, was nothing short of a NACAT masterclass. The Ali brothers continued their scoring onslaught, with each adding two more goals to their personal tallies, taking their combined total to an astonishing eight goals. Not to be left out, NACAT’s captain, Stanley Ugagbe, demonstrated his hunger for goals, netting two of his own to widen the gap.
Despite the offensive barrage, Flawless refused to go down without a fight. Pius Sunday managed to pull one back for his team, and Ernest Akibe, who was relentless all night, added his fourth goal, bringing Flawless’ final score to five. The crowd was particularly captivated by the exceptional skills of Ruth Ogubuike, the only female player on the pitch, whose footwork and stamina left spectators in awe.
Flawless’ goalkeeper, Paul Timilehin, was nothing short of heroic, despite the defeat. With over ten crucial saves, he ensured that NACAT’s goal count did not spiral further out of control, earning admiration from the crowd for his resilience between the posts.
The match also saw standout performances from both teams. On Flawless’ side, Tobiloba John, Olatunji Awofesobi, and Genesis Akpolowa fought valiantly throughout the contest. Meanwhile, NACAT’s George Ali was named Man of the Match, his impressive two-way play combining solid defensive tackles with a pair of pivotal goals. Malik Umar’s rock-solid defense and Enoobong Michael Ibanga’s commanding presence in midfield were also key to NACAT’s dominance. Goalkeeper Paul Utebor was a nightmare for Flawless, even saving a crucial penalty to preserve NACAT’s lead.
