Norman Reedus Reacts to That Heartbreaking Death in The Book of Carol

If we’ve learned anything from watching The Walking Dead, it’s to not get too attached to new characters, as there’s a high probability that they might not last. The latest episode of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon – The Book of Carol once more hammered that point home thanks to the death of Clémence Poésy’s Isabelle Carriere, who unfortunately met a sad end at the hands of Losang, dying in Daryl’s arms. With Poésy having portrayed the character since the spin-off premiered a little over a year ago, star Norman Reedus says he’s “sad” to see her go, but as with all things, life goes on in the wasteland.

Speaking with TV Line following the conclusion of the Season 2 episode “Le Paradis Pour Toi,” Reedus expressed his grief over the death of Isabelle, and what Poésy meant to the series overall. Like all of us who’ve watched her come into her own in the show, he says that seeing her transformation from the first season right up until the end was a sight to behold.

“I was really sad to see Clémence Poésy go, because I really liked her. She brought a certain quality to the show that was very valuable. She’s a great actress and has really good ideas. I watched her go from Episode 1 to where she went in this season, and her character changed so much. Isabelle was great.”

The death of Isabelle comes just a couple of weeks after she and Daryl kissed for the first time, which marked Reedus’ first on-screen smooch in The Walking Dead universe since he began the series in 2010. We questioned then whether Isabelle would last, or if she’d suffer the same fate as his previous love interest, Leah, who met her fate in Season 11 of the series. At least this time he didn’t have to do the deed himself, but still, it begs the question: Will Daryl ever get his happily ever after?

Life Goes On For Norman Reedus and Daryl Dixon

Though he at least has Carol (for now), it’s no secret that Reedus’ character has been through so much over the course of The Walking Dead. From having to kill his own zombified brother in Season 3 to losing Beth in Season 5, he once more finds himself in the position of having to process yet another loss of someone he held near and dear. However, things move quickly in this world, with the star adding, “There are so many different levels of what the f*ck, like back-to-back-to-back-to-back, in a short period of time.”

With just two more episodes left in this season of The Book of Carol, Dixon is now tasked with completing Isabelle’s journey of protecting Laurent, who is believed to be the key to saving the human race. However, that’s not to say he won’t take a moment to process her death when the time is right. “There are certain things that need to be processed as soon as we get out of here, or as soon as this fight is over and we’re safe,” Reedus says. Of course, no one has ever really been “safe” in The Walking Dead, so it’ll be interesting to see how and when Daryl manages to grieve. Either way, with things winding down, we can’t wait until they culminate in what’s sure to be an explosive finale.
