Protest will not yield any positive development – VP Shettima

Date:

Vice President Kashim Shettima has appealed to Nigerian youths to jettison the proposed nationwide protest billed to take place on Thursday, 1st August 2024.

Speaking during a one-day working visit to Jigawa State on Tuesday, 23rd July, the Vice President described those calling for the protest as selfish and unpatriotic.

According to him, “The protest will not yield any positive development; instead, it will lead to violence and destruction of public properties.”

Governors are also calling for the cancellation of the planned protest.

Jigawa State Governor Umar Namadi on Monday told Nigerians to accept hardship as trial from God, adding that the proposed nationwide protest is not the solution to Nigeria’s current challenges.

Governor Bassey Otu of Cross River via a press statement signed by his Commissioner for Information, Dr Erasmus Ekpang, has warned Cross Riverians not to join the planned protest as they will use security apparatuses to ensure they clamp on protesters.

Recall that since Bola Tinubu took over as president on 29th May 2023, things have become worse following his removal of fuel subsidy and the floating of foreign exchange.

Many Nigerians have called for the reversal of the subsidy but instead, the president has continued to ruin other sectors, increasing electricity tariffs, and taxes, as prices of goods and services soar daily.
