As a major steel-producing province, Hebei for many years suffered from heavy pollution. The situation began to change after the government launched a war to defend the country’s blue skies in 2014. At the Delong Steel Plant, however, investing in environmental protection equipment wasn’t seen as enough. It went one step further, and set about turning itself into a tourist attraction. It did so by encouraging its workers to transform scrap metal into sculptures. A highlight of a visit to the factory today is the Transformers Garden, where various characters are on display in a beautiful environment.
