The Pittsburgh Steelers have a very intriguing situation brewing at their quarterback position.
They signed former Super Bowl champion Russell Wilson to a league-minimum contract.
Additionally, they traded a conditional 2025 sixth-round pick for former Bears quarterback Justin Fields.
With Wilson expected to be the starter, Fields will take a year to grow.
However, he is going to have to do it fast if he wants to remain a Steeler for the foreseeable future.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Pittsburgh is not expected to pick up his fifth-year option.

It will be fascinating to see how head coach Mike Tomlin approaches this position considering he could very well be on the hot seat if Pittsburgh has an underwhelming season.
For Fields, he is really going to have to make a strong impression as the backup behind Wilson.
That is going to have to show up in practice and in the meeting room.
If he can improve on the talent that he already has, perhaps the Steelers give him a new extension after 2024.
But, it could also come down to how well Wilson plays as the starter.
When healthy, Fields is one of the most electrifying quarterbacks in the game.
Despite playing on a struggling offense in Chicago, the former Ohio State Buckeye star threw for 40 touchdowns and rushed for 2,220 yards in three years.
He is a big, multi-faced quarterback that brings a lot of potential to the table.
However, he just needs to become a better NFL-style quarterback.
Learning from Russell Wilson should be a real blessing in disguise for Fields if he handles everything the right way.
