The elections results and the evolving political scenario quite naturally dominated our Editorials and Edit Op-Ed articles last week.
Our Editorial on June 5, the day after the election results were announced, focussed on the return of coalition government, the BJP’s performance and the wind in the Opposition’s sail. But it cautioned against the Opposition trying to form the government.
The June 6 Editorial commented on the State elections in Odisha – the stunning defeat of the BJD and Naveen Patnaik — and Andhra Pradesh, where TDP and Chandrababu Naidu made a spectacular comeback. Other Editorials spoke about how the new government must retain its focus on fiscal consolidation and why the RBI maintained a status quo on policy rates for the eighth straight policy review.
