Two New Halloween Video Games in the Works From Studio Behind Evil Dead: The Game

Michael Myers is heading to a gaming console near you, as it’s been announced that there are not one, but two video games based on John Carpenter’s Halloween in the works from Boss Team Games. The best part? The legendary director himself is involved in the project. The one and only video game based off of Carpenter’s 1978 groundbreaking slasher movie came in 1983 for the Atari 2600, and while characters from the film have been featured in other franchises such as Dead by Daylight, there has never been a true standalone game in more than 40 years.

Per IGN, the Halloween video games come by way of the creators of Evil Dead: The Game, with one of them being developed in Unreal Engine 5. It’s being said that the new games will allow players to “relive moments from the film and play as classic characters from one of the most iconic and important horror films of all time,” but specifics remain under wraps for now. What is known is that Carpenter will be “intimately involved” in at least one of the projects, offering his input. In a statement released by the director, he said he’s hoping to scare people “silly” with their release.

Boss Team Games CEO Steve Harris expanded on Carpenter’s comments, adding that everyone on the team is a huge fan of the franchise, and promised to deliver a “one-of-a-kind experience” that both gaming and movie fans can get behind.

What Can We Expect from the Halloween Video Games?

While it’s unknown at this point what sort of mechanics the Halloween video games will feature, one can assume that they’ll follow in the same vein as the previous Boss Team Games’ release, Evil Dead: The Game. Debuting in 2022, the asymmetric multiplayer game featured both co-op and PvP modes, immersing players in the world created by Sam Raimi. It managed to sell 500,000 units and garnered mostly positive reviews, with many praising its visuals, atmosphere, and fluidity, despite the frustrating lack of maps and – at times – difficult gameplay. In 2023, live content support was shut down, but its servers currently remain active.
