Drew McIntyre is eyeing a dream Sunday as he plans to watch his beloved Rangers ‘smash’ Celtic – before winning WWE’s World Heavyweight title at WrestleMania.
The Rangers superfan challenges Seth Rollins for the gold in front of 60,000 fans at Lincoln Financial Field on the first night of WWE’s annual blockbuster event.
Hours before, he says the men from Ibrox will make short work of Celtic as the two go head-to-head in one of the closest Scottish Premiership title races for many a season.
The Scottish powerhouse insists Rangers’ phenomenal recent form – and the introduction of Jack Butland between the sticks – have made the side unstoppable.
Brushing off a controversial exit from the Europa League at the hands of Benfica, he told U105 radio: “At the moment we’ve got the momentum and in the Old Firm game we’re going to smash them.
“I’m hearing all the excuses, mostly from family members who are Celtic fans, about what’s going on right now, but we’ve been on fire recently.
“Recently we’ve found a keeper in Butland who can replace McGregor – that’s been a struggle for a long time.
“It’s unfortunate we’re out of the Europa, but that was never a penalty in the first leg against Benfica, so I’m going to hang my hat on that!
“But league wise, it belongs to us. This is Rangers’ season. As I say, we’re on fire, we’ve got the momentum. We’ve got the game in hand.
“We’re going to get to the top of the league, then we’re going to smash Celtic and I’m going to win the world title.
“It’s meant to be.”
The Gers have been relentless thus far in 2023-24 in trying to chase down the title, and McIntyre has no desires for things to go down to the wire on the final day.
“I’d prefer just to win it,” he added. “No worries, no drama. Just get it won and get them smashed, then cruise for the rest of it.
“We don’t need the dramatic moments, we’ve had too many of those of the last ten years as Rangers fans, our hearts can’t take much more.
“Let’s just get it done as quickly as possible.”
WWE head back to the UK shortly after WrestleMania, and the 38-year-old grappler has every intention on bringing the World Heavyweight title back to these shores after downing Rollis on Sunday.
On what that would mean, he admitted: “Everything. That’s been the dream since I was a kid… to get back to the UK as the first ever British champion, the first ever Scottish champion, and be able to raise that title in the UK, in Ireland around all the people I grew up wrestling in front of.
“My friends, my family, to finally show them the title and give it to my dad and say ‘I finally did it’ and say thank you for sacrificing… giving everything to this industry.
“It would be nice to finally have that reward to say, ‘sorry I’ve been gone a lot, but we did it.’”
