It’s hard to believe that Brad Pitt is 60 years old; he looks half his age. Yet, he is starring in the new F1 movie, simply titled “F1.” Imaginative. Anyway, the story goes like this: Pitt stars as Sonny Hayes, a former driver who returns to Formula 1, teaming up with his partner at APXGP, a fictional team on the grid.
The plotline sounds realistic, former/retired drivers do return to the sport for one last shot at the top… but not aged 60!
Anyway…
The feature is being shot during actual Grand Prix weekends as the team competes against the titans of the sport. It is made in collaboration with Formula 1 and the F1 community, including the 10 F1 teams and their drivers, the FIA, and race promoters.
Motorsport movies don’t typically fare well, so it will be interesting to see how over-the-top this Hollywood makeover will be. Or perhaps it could be a good watch.
Certainly, it will have an audience; thanks to Netflix’s “Drive to Survive” fly-on-the-wall series, F1 has grown in popularity with a massive worldwide audience.
