Zack Snyder Wanted Leonardo DiCaprio As Lex Luthor In ‘Batman v Superman’

Date:

Zack Snyder has revealed that he talked to Leonardo DiCaprio for the role of Lex Luthor in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

In a recent episode of the Happy Sad Confused podcast with Josh Horowitz, director Zack Snyder revisited his casting decisions for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. While Jesse Eisenberg ultimately landed the role of the supervillain Lex Luthor, Snyder revealed that he had considered other high-profile actors for the part, including Academy Award winner Leonardo DiCaprio.

Snyder, who has helmed several major DC films such as Man of Steel and both versions of Justice League, also responded to rumors about other actors who were in the running for the same role. Confirming some of the speculation, Snyder stated, “I think I did talk to Adam [Driver] on the phone. He further detailed his conversation with Leonardo DiCaprio about the possibility of joining the film, which never materialized but highlighted the director’s ambitious vision for the DC villain.

“Leonardo DiCaprio I talked to about it. He had a lot of great ideas, actually, just in the meeting. I think, in the end, he was like ‘You know, I don’t know.’ But he was really smart about the material and really smart about the character. In a lot of ways, I think he was the one that mentioned this idea about Superman fighting the Justice League at some point.” He added, “I was like, ‘Oh, that’s cool.’”

Looking ahead to the future of the DC Universe under the guidance of James Gunn and Peter Safran, Nicholas Hoult has been cast as the new Lex Luthor. Hoult is set to debut in this role in the next Superman movie, marking a new chapter for the character and the franchise.
